MEET OUR PASTOR

Rev. Tim Atwater

Rev. Tim joined the Bridgewater UMC family on July 1st, 2021. He comes to us following an almost 9 year appointment on Cape Cod. Rev. Tim grew up in Concord, MA and graduated from Wilmington College in Ohio. He has lived in Washington, DC, Vermont, and Massachusetts and is very excited to be the pastor of our beloved church community.

In his own words,

"After some years away from church I found my way to Adamant Methodist church where I joined the church in 1990, served as Church Council chair for several years and did occasional lay preaching. After discerning a call to ministry I studied at Boston University School of Theology, graduating MDiv, 1999. I was ordained a probationary elder in Troy Annual Conference that year, but still unsure of the specifics of my call, I worked several years with Jubilee USA Network on cancellation of debts of low income countries.

"I began pastoral ministry in 2002, and have served United Methodist  churches in Adamant and Plainfield VT (2002-2006), Dannemora and Ellenburg NY (2006-2010), Isle La Motte, North Hero, Grand Isle VT (2010-2012), and Bourne and Cataumet on Cape Cod since 2012.

"My days start with prayer, psalms, bible reading and coffee... I love the church...I love the world... I have lover’s quarrels with both... I love time with my family... I like to read... I walk three to four miles a day... I love music (and try to sing)... I fly-fish...enjoy vegetable gardening...like to bake bread and rolls with Rohi and Reah... and love to be out in God’s good creation as much as I can."
