MISSION & SERVICE
TO OTHERS

“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”       Philippians 2:4

Serving others is part of our Christian life. As people of God we seek to do
the work of God in our communities and in the world.

Our mission and service efforts are coordinated through the Mission
Committee. The role of the Mission Committee is to:

  • Help to identify the needs that exist within the local community

  • Coordinate mission and service projects across the congregation
(including Sunday School and United Methodist Women)

  • Support efforts of United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)

  • Plan and fund raise for mission trips

  • Educate and inform the congregation of UMCOR initiatives and local
    needs

Supporting the efforts of the United Methodist Committee on Relief
(UMCOR)

With the United Methodist Women and the congregation, the Mission
committee helped collect materials and assembled the following kits for communities across the country impacted by hurricanes and flooding:

  • School kits

  • Flood buckets

  • Health Kits

We also participated in UMCOR’s “No More Malaria” campaign. By improving the ways people fight the disease using bed nets, providing access to diagnostic tests and medicine, draining standing water, and improving sanitation, the campaign sought to reduce malaria deaths.  Our church participated with a fund raiser in which participants made pledges for every bug that the pastor ate. It was a great afternoon of fellowship and fun with music, comedy, games, refreshments, and of course bug eating.

Local Ministries

Our mission work supports a variety of local community causes including ongoing collection of foods and goods to support the local food pantry; providing supports to Bridgewater State College students; providing a safe and quiet space for Muslim students to participate in daily prayer; other inter-faith and ecumenical work in the greater Bridgewater area.
